Great post!! Your constant updates on Twitter have given me hope, helped broaden my thoughts, and generally helped keep me sane. This has all been so emotionally distressing, especially for vets.
I just hope we can continue to get out as many as we can and that we can somehow (someway) start coming together better as a country.
What I don't know about the situation could fill volumes. Based on my very limited knowledge of the situation, however, the US is and was in a "no-win" situation here. For one thing, it was never going to win this war from a military and cultural standpoint. For one thing, Afghanistan is a completely different culture, and we simply can't impose in two decades "our way" of doing things on a nation where a huge section of the population doesn't want it. As well, when Afghanistan's neighbours (I'm looking at YOU, Pakistan and Iran) are actively supporting the Taliban, the Taliban was always going to have a steady source of cash and weapons.
Afghanistan has been well-known as the "graveyard of empires". The British found that out and so did the Soviets. Now, we too have received our comeuppance.
True all of that. These guys are not crazy. They've seen it before. If terrorist bombings resume, western powers take out their country again. In a perverse way, the Taliban could be our best allies right now. They have the biggest incentive to keep a handle on Isis, al-qaida, and so on.
Since your post on 8/ 26 I have seen a poll stating Biden dominates desantis. I am old enough to remember Iran hostage situation doomed Carter’s re-election also believe nefarious actors within sabotage things there like Bengazhi lots of speculation …the timing of Erik prince in Kabul.

Great article Louise!
Good comments, but here's the greater danger as I see it https://dianefrancis.substack.com/p/jihadistan
Very good article Diane, and I agree there - something Biden will have to watch very carefully

Thank you for the education, as always.
